Chester Market | Case Study

In 2020, Cheshire West & Chester Council began construction on a new city centre market.

Problem

The driving force behind the new market was to create a ‘modern traditional market’ that takes the best of the new breed of thriving city produce markets such as Borough Market in London, or Barcelona market; combined with pioneering communal food hall markets such as Altrincham and Stockholm. The council were looking to create a unique blend of produce, goods, food and beverage traders in a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone to enjoy. Somewhere you really can shop local and eat global.

Solution

Insight UK has maintained a productive partnership with Cheshire West and Chester Council for more than a decade. When the Council turned to Insight, as their trusted advisor, for the AV requirements at the new Chester Market it became evident that the introduction of a specialist expert was needed to fulfill the client requirements.

By enlisting the specialist skill set of the Viewpoint-AV team and the supplier network, the Council project team were able to develop a solution that, whilst highly technical, was able to meet all the client requirements with an easy to operate flexible system that helped to create a world class experience for all visitors to the markets.

Chester Market is officially the best new market in the country according to the National Association of British Market Authorities which recognised the new market in its annual achievement awards.

NABMA have been the national voice of markets for over 100 years and made the award at their annual conference in Harrogate. The judges hailed the approach taken by Cheshire West and Chester Council in its commitment to developing the new Chester Market which opened less than a year ago in November 2022 as part of the Northgate phase one development. The special award highlighted how the new market stood out in terms of management, achievement, investment and innovation; whilst also praising the market’s branding as distinctive, memorable, and exuberant.
